St. Mary's 1 - ASIJ 0

The A Team Titans faced their strongest opponents yet last weekend, prevailing 1-0 against a determined visiting team from ASIJ. Once again, keeper Bruno Ortiz-Canavate managed to keep a clean sheet in the face of some aggressive offensive attacks. Bruno has now played 210 minutes without allowing a goal. Much credit once again must go to the devenders who, like last week, bent but did not break in the face of strong attacking play from the opposing forwards. Taiki Hirata had a strong game, controlling the ball and setting up some good opportunities for his position on the back line. Justin Nagashima scored his second goal fo the season to preserve a narrow victory. Alan Williams impressed with his good work along the wings, setting up numerous dangerous chances.

St Mary's 2 - CAJ O

The Titans A team headed into week 2 of the MS soccer season missing two of their key players. Kento Nakamura and Justin Nagashima were both on the injured list for the match against CAJ last weekend. However the team showed good poise against a relatively strong CAJ team, emerging with a 2-0 victory. Keeper Bruno Orits-Canavate made a coupe of superb leaping saves to record his shutout of the young season. Tanjib Hasan put the home team in front in the first half with a massive strike from 25 yards that sailed into the netting. Keving LIne scored for the second game in a row, making contact twice during a goalmouth scramble before putting the ball away. Tommy Someya played a strong game a fullback, heading away several dangerous balls.

St. Mary's 6 - AOBA O

The Titans A team faced their first opponents on September 9th, at home. The team had been training hard during the weeks leading up to the opening game, and they showed very good offensive skills to take an early lead. Single goals from Sean Williams, Kevin Line, Justin Nagashima and a hat-trick from Nikashi Zaib sealed the visitors' fate. Tanjib Hasan demonstrated his excellent ball control and playmaking skills from his positino as center forward. Defensively, the team was led by the performance of keeper Bruno Oritz-Canavate. Bruno is off to an excellent start with a shutout in his first match. Yuya Yoshida cleared many balls away, stopping several opposition plays from causing any damage.

The team looks forward to continuing to develop their skills and team spirit in the coming weeks.

St. Mary's 3 - ASIJ 0

The Titans completed their five-game season with a home fixture against ASIJ. Alan Williams was the last Titan to touch the ball on an ASIJ own goal to open the scoring. Then jsut four minutes into the second half, Kevin Line sped down the right wing and scored a truly sublime goal, lifting the ball from 20 yards out while being dragged down. The ball curved over the keeper's outstretched hands and bulged the twine just below the bar. I would like to pay tribute to the outstanding effort of the team throughout the season. To win every game and outscore the opposition 21-0 is a great testament to the team's effort and determination. The defending corps of keeper Bruno Orits-Canavate, Yuya Yoshida, Tommy Someya and Alex Auvaro deserve credit for keeping a clean sheet in every game. Top scorer for the season with 7 goals is Tanjib Hasan. The team plays in the season ending tournament on November 4th, 2006 at ASIJ.

Weekend Round-up - Soccer A November 4th, 2006

Kanto Plain Tournament Champions

The Titans MS soccer team finished their season on a winning note at ASIJ last weekend. Victories of 3-1 v. YIS and 14-0 v. St Maur set up the Titans for a championship game v. CAJ, a team which had earlier surprised the widely favored ASIJ side 2-1 in a thrilling encounter to open the tournament. The Titans expected a challenging game as CAJ had demonstrated superb skills in winning both of their preliminary games. However, 9 minutes into the opening half, the score was 4-0 for the Titans and the half ended 5-0. In the second half, CAJ roared back with 3 unanswered goals, and looked to be pressing for a fourth, as the Titans looked stunned and disorganized in their own half. Kevin Line scored perhaps the most important Titan goal of the season to stem teh CAJ onslaught, dribbling past several defenders before depositing the goal into the net, resulting in a final score of 6-3. Tommy Someya and Alex Auvaro were pressedinto service as keepers and performed very well in goal on short notice.

I would like to pay top tribute to a team that scored 44 goals in total during the season and tournament, allowing only 4 goals against them. They began as a team of individuals and learned as the weeks passed to play as a group and make the sacrifices necessary to ensure victory.
